Nutrition Care Manual® Outline

The NCM® is broken into six (6) distinct sections: (1) Diet Manual, (2) Nutrition Care(3) Client Ed/Diets(4) Calculators(5) Formulary, and (6) Resources. Below you will find a description of each section and what information can be found within each section.

  1. Diet Manual: This section includes information for health care facilities regarding diet liberalization, general guidance for diet manual implementation, process for annual diet manual review and implementation, regulations, disaster preparedness, planning a house diet, obsolete diets and diet terminology, and corrections. This section includes a complete therapeutic diet manual of diets within the NCM®.
  2. Nutrition Care: This section includes information on conditions, normal nutrition, and older adult nutrition. Each condition topic covers overview information, practice-related guidelines, as well as the Nutrition Care Process specific to each disease/condition. This section also houses the reference lists for each topic. Abstract and/or full text links are provided for all possible reference citations.
  3. Client Ed/Diets: This section includes all nutrition therapies and menus available in the NCM®. Handouts are created at a 6th-grade reading level to be understandable for as many clients/patients as possible.
  4. Calculators: The calculators in this section are useful when performing a nutritional assessment or planning nutrition intervention.
  5. Formulary: This section contains nutritional information about various types of oral and tube feeding nutritional solutions, used with permission of the manufacturers.  You can customize your subscription to highlight the nutritional solutions found in your facility.
